Quarterstick / City Slang 581312-2. 2003
The perfect soundtrack to my spinach omelette on this fine and sunny day in May.
Someone had been messing with the metronome before they recorded this one, as the pace shifts a lot throughout, which is good for the attention span. An overall similar feel to Black Light (but then all Calexico is quite similar), but we've lost a lot of the mariachi but it does pop up here and there. Feast manages to stay firmly planted on the Mexican border despite this, and conjures up images of places you really don't want to go alone.
Personal favourite: the lovely cello and pedal steel guitar on Whipping the horse's eyes.
A good introduction to Calexico if you haven't been there already.
