Chicago Underground Duo - axis and alignment

Thrill Jockey THRILL106. 2002

Two nicely structure suites. My jazz knowledge is very limited, so comparisons will be kept to a minimum.

Starts nicely with some vibe and percussion, flows into a section that could be from an 80's Sun Ra album, off into freeform. Back down to earth with an upbeat synth-bass/horn workout. (deep breath......)

It continues on, ever more varied. Most pleasant, never annoying like some freakout jazz can be.

I'm not sure how they'd pull it off live, being just the two sickeningly talentent multi-instrumentalists, but on disk it all works. Recommended.
