Big Black - The Hammer Party

Homestead HMS044-2. 1986

The first two Big Black eps on one disk - Lungs (1982) and Bulldozer (1983).

The first 6 tracks sound like they were recorded on 4-track in a bedroom, which they probably were. The second half is much closer to the later characteristic BB sound.

Not the best introduction to BB, but a worthy addition to any CD shelf.

'GREAT BIG THING CRAWLING ALL OVER ME!'

If anyone has a spare Travis Bean TB-500 aluminium-necked guitar and an Interfax HP-1 Harmonic Percolator pedal, I'd greatly appreciate your contribution to my achievement of that Steve Albini 'chhhhrrrrrriiiiiiaaaannnngggggg' guitar sound.

These chaps are knocking out reverse-engineered versions of the impossible to acquire HP pedals. I'll be parting with $140 soon.

Highlights: Cables, Steelworker, Pigeon Kill
