Can - Ege Bamyasi

Spoon CD 008. (recorded 1972)

Spoon SA8 (remastered). 2004

Ok, very slight cheat. The next disk on the shelf is the original Spoon release of this, but I've already done the back-to-back comparison with the remastered version, which is 6 disks along, and it's far better. So I'm playing that one.

If you're new to Can, buy this and Tago Mago. If you have the original releases, buy the remastered versions. They're amazing.

This and TM are in my top ten most played disks. Can't get enough of them.

I think it's mainly Jaki Leibezeit's machine-precise, yet somehow slack, relaxed drumming that appeals to me. The perfect partner to Czukays staccato bass throbs. Karoli's (RIP) punctuating guitar seals the deal. I seem to prefer Can with Damo Suzuki's involvement.

Not a single weak track across the 40 minutes. Favourites would have to be Pinch, Spoon and Vitamin C, but that may change by tomorrow.
