On my MySpace profile (I don't do online social networking very much, but it seemed like a good idea for about 5 minutes), my musical tastes are listed as 'I only listen to Cheap Trick albums at 45 rpm'. Now this obviously isn't true, but as I'm listening to this CD I'm wondering....
Do we now have a generation who's lives are devoid of the simple pleasure of flicking the speed selector on the turntable from 33 to 45, and giggling at the resultant comedic squeaking frenzy? Not so fast and high pitched as to be utterly stupid - just enough to be really fucking funny no matter what you're playing. How many among them will bother to open up some editing software, select an illicitly acquired MP3 and adjust it funnywards? Simple pleasures. I'll keep my SL1210, thankyou.
Cheap Trick rocked. Just look at them on the cover (so magnificently replicated by Big Black on The Model 7"). Cocky but self-deprecating sex rock gods. I wish I'd been their mate. Bound to have picked up some spare, and had a right laugh most of the time.
I think Vindaloo by Fat Les ripped off the drums from Elo Kiddies, which has similarities with Rock n Roll by The Glitter Band. Perhaps appropriate given the allegations against Mr Gadd.
If you like straight-ahead rock, check this out.
Apparently this edition of the CD has the tracks the wrong way round, as the original vinyl was labelled Side A and Side 1. It was fixed on the next release in 1998. Don't you just hate that! (see Butthole Surfers - Psychic, Powerless..., though that's not strictly a mistake, just my preference).
