Chrome - Half Machine Lip Moves / Alien Sountracks

Touch and Go T&GLP#58CD. 1990

I went to the Burning Man festival in 2004. I was going to be meeting up with Scot Jenerik (F-Space), who mentioned he was going to be camped with Ethan Port (Savage Republic) and the drummer from Chrome! I had visions of hanging around in the Black Rock desert with Damon Edge. How was I to know he died of heart failure in 1995? The drummer turned out to be Aleph Kali, who was in the reformed Chrome with Helios Creed in the late 90s. A nice chap, but imagine my disappointment.

We spent a pleasant week back at Scot's house reacclimatising ourselves with reality. Aleph didn't steal any of my beer.

I digress. Most of this sounds like was recorded by fuck ups in a flop house. Through a bucket. Which it probably was. They must have worn out so many phaser and flanger pedals in their time.

Despite the technical inadequacies and almost entire lack of structure, this has the odd moment of inspirational genius. TV As Eyes is one of the greatest and un-recreatable (see Jesus Lizard Chrome 7") 90 seconds in rock history. Worthy mentionables are Zombie Warfare, Pygmies in zee dark and Slip it to the android.

The guitar riff/sound on ST 37 sounds just like something from Thug's Electric Wooly Mammoth (buy it if you can find it!) - can't remember the exact track.

YOU     MUST     HEAR      TV AS EYES      BEFORE       YOU       DIE.
