This is the culprit. I don't know where I heard Dog on wheels, but I liked it.
The Simon and Garfunkel-ish vocal stylings, the mariachi trumpet parps, the incredibly simple guitar. Even the little bit of fast tambourine in the middle. It all works.
One good track out of shed-loads. Bye bye B&S.
